Okay. After a lot of working on this video I think I have made it work out.
Here is my statement about my video:
I have a video of my mother, my brother, and I traveling to a store called Apples. The drive is scenic with lush green plants lining the street. The trip is a very happy and silly trip that we take each year. Since my father was over seas he was not able to travel with us this year. Instead of being home, he has been working in Afghanistan. He took a video of his trip from one base to another, and I was surprised there was such a huge contrast to what we experienced on our trip to Apples. The landscape was very dull and tan with dilapidated homes and buildings. It was important for me to show the difference experiences a family can go through; using the spit screen I was able to provide a contrast between these two trips. The left side has a bight colored, relaxing, and happy go lucky. The right side has dull mono-color, has an disturbed feeling, and was anything but happy.
Today is Thursday, and I’m working on my video, making sure that the kinks are all worked out. Rendering takes so LONG! OMG, I wish it would go faster. I’ll have an idea and it will take about 5 min to put the video in, then 5 min to change anything, so If I want to change 3 things then there is 15 min right there, Then it doesn’t look like I wanted it to, so then I have to undo it all…Not fun. I think that it is coming along just the same though. I have already made sure the videos are the same size and placement. Now I want to start working on the sound. I have a lot of ideas about the sounds, like have my father say where he is, and have to sound move back and forth, but also maybe add him talking in the background, but have it soft so you can barely hear him. I’m also going to add a car door opening sound at the end of my video.
Takes a long time. I’m going to be working on this over the weekend as well. Hopefully I will be able to do all the changes needed.
On Monday: I have been thinking about that I want to do for my video. I really want to have a comparison between my father and my mom, brother, and me. I liked the traveling idea. My family has always been a traveling family. We have moved from Alaska to GA, back to Alaska, and then back to GA again. Since my father has been over seas (2 years now) he has only been able to come home 8 times in 2 week increments. It has been hard, since our family is very close. My mother and father made it a goal to have a good family bond that has always stuck with me. I wanted to show that even though a family can be separated they are still a family. I also wanted to show how hard and emotional it can be. Hopefully My video will turn out this way.
Tuesday: My father brought back some great videos. I have been looking at a video he has that is really compelling to me. It’s a video of him driving in a humvee, He is sitting on the right side and looking out the right window looking at the desert and a town that looks very sad. Its very contrasting to my video of me and My mom, dexter, and I traveling to an apple orchard, which is lush green and at the end there are many people lots of cars. In my video I was sitting in the right hand side and looking straight ahead. I think it looks cool together because it looked like someone could be sitting in a car looking at the front and then looking out the side window.
I also wanted to try making another video about my fathers living space, but I thought that would take to much time before class, I might try making another video…we’ll see. I’m having trouble uploading the video. So you will just have to wait and see the end product.
Also on Tuesday Class: On tuesday we had a review of our videos. I’m going to fix my video on the review of the class. I need to make the videos have the same size, better title, slow down the one side of the video so they feel more like that are happening at the same time, also make it apparent where each place is being taken; that way people can connect faster and better understand my video. I was thinking about adding some audio to these videos.
So I’m working on the film that I’m going to show next week. I believe that this is going to be a really nice film. I’m getting my dad to film where he is and how everything is for his everyday life. Hopefully this will turn out really well. I think it will. I’m going to have him talk to me about his life there and how it has effected him. I’m going to use his commentary as the sound and the videos I already have, and the one’s he will be giving me on Monday.
I’m really excited to see him.
Today I came into class and my pictured I made with the weird world (the one with the insects) was printed on large paper. It’s looks interesting up there. I can see that I liked 2 of them better then the other one. It looks good though hung up. Here is a picture of them hanging.
Hey guys. Sorry I haven’t written in a while. I have been having a mental block about the video project. First I was going to have a split screen, with an adult women and a young girl walking down the road (though their POV), but I couldn’t find a girl. I really liked the idea though.
Then I was going to talk about a trip that my mom, brother, and I did. It’s a place that we always go to every year. But this year my father could go because he is in Afghanistan.
So Now I am going to make split screen of us traveling to the place, have use 3 hanging out, then maybe videos of my dad where he is, and him traveling to see use. having audio of him talking about going to apples.
I have finally figured out what I wanted to do with my video. My video is going to be able a a women and a girl walking down a road and seeing how they see different things. I wanted to point out how people say that kids aren’t as aware of their surroundings, but is that true? How is it that a girl and women can walk down the same path and see such different things. I think if I do this right it will be very thought provoking.
I will be watching a video Turbulent.and write a section about how and why things work for the videos, such as Values/color/ rhythm/ texture/ light/ composition. I have seen the video 2 times already and it is still very moving and makes you want to watch it.
